I have been meaning to try installing a new kernel for a while. I followed the excellent guide at the top of the page and the installtion went well.
After booting into the new kernel and entering X my network card was no longer recognised. I started the KDE network tool but got the following error-
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
CORBA error: IDL
mg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
CORBA error: IDL
mg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
CORBA error: IDL
mg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1
I could still use the tool but I had never seen this before.
I deleted the old NIC configuration and re-installed the nvnet driver I had got to work before. I installed the rpm from the command line and got this error -
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/crypto/autoload.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/crypto/proc.o
I moved these files out of the directory temporarily to see what would happen and was given andother error that said the same thing except with the "api.o" instead. I removed that file and the rpm installed. Doing this still didn't help as the system was unable to recognise the card.
I had a look at the modules_make.err that was suggested by the guide and there were no errors just lots of warnings, almost all like this -
<file name>:number: warning: concatenation of string literals with __FUNCTION__ is deprecated
There was no mention of anything to do with crypto apart from
api.c:215: warning: `init_crypto' defined but not used
which was at the end of the file with nothing proceeding it.
Any ideas? Bit of a n00b so don't really know where to go from here.
I'm used Redhat 9 and my last kernel was 2.4.20-8. My motherboard is a Asus A7N8X and uses the in-built network card.
