Problem with automatic module loading

Hello,

I updated my Red Hat 9.0 to Kernel 2.6.5 and now have Problems with some modules:

- The CD-Rom doesn't mount before I inserted ide-cd manually...
- The NFS Filesystems isn't supported befor I inserted nfs manually...

And I think there is a better solution than putting "modprobe ide-cd nfs" in rc.local - so what about the kernel module loader? Under Kernel 2.4 it works perfect even though there isn't anything in /etc/modules.conf! AFAIK the 2.6 Kernel uses /etc/modprobe.conf, so I inserted something like "alias block-major-22 ide-cd" but that doesn't work either...

Any clues?!

Greetings from Germany...

After spending lots of time on this problem I finally found the Problem:

After installing Kernel 2.6.5 /etc/rc.sysinit sets /proc/sys/kernel/modprobe to /sbin/true, because /proc/ksyms doesn't exist... To correct this and use modprobe for 2.4 and 2.6 kernels set the [ -f /proc/ksyms ] in /etc/rc.sysinit line 366 to [ -f /proc/ksyms -o /proc/kallsyms ]
