Problem installing gtkmm-1.2.8

After running ./configure I get this message when it finishes
"if libsigc++ was install but not found to sane most likely you have not placed the /usr/local/lib path in the library config file and run ldconfig"

Now I'm very new to RH Linux an I'm running version 7.3. When the above message is warning me about the library config file I haven't got a clue as to where it is and what the exact name is and can I put the string /usr/local/lib any where in the file or is there a special place to insert it? When I get to the point of running ldconfig do I put a ./ before it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I may be wrong about this, but try adding /usr/local/lib to your /etc/ file (this might have a slightly different name in red hat). Run ldconfig and you should be sound. Do all this as root by the way. Best of luck!
