Ports and kickstart
 

Hi all this is my first post so please be aware of that :)

I do need to perform a kickstart with pxe boot on a MAN structure from a repository based in France to kickstart a machine in Finland.

Kickstart is based on a web repository and is accessible from finland. The problem is that i do have a firewall in france and i don't really know which port i should open for finland.

I expect an answer like port 80 but i don't know if there is some other port to open, like the one for tftp.

Secondly, do you think that this is possible? I already have perform a kickstart in MAN from france to france but never from france to another country. I don't see any kind of problem but still, it is not working and i'm asking my self if it is a problem from the firewall in france or the tftp packets which cannot reach finland or something else ...

If you have done it from another location, if servers IP and clients IP do not share same subnet, it does not matter from what country you are accessing. But only if you are accessing it via public IP. If you only accessed it from the same subnet as server is on, then I do not know.

No, haven't played with kickstarts. But from your answer I understand that you only done this from same physical location, so you should first find out what you can do via internet connection and what part must be done "in house".

I do have yum repository so I do know that that part only needs http port (80). As far as I know, PXE boot needs dhcp server at the location of the client, so you will have to have one server that will do anything except storing rpms (yum repository), so port 80 for repository is enough.
