Port accessible only from local machine

Redhat ES Release 3.

A CORBA process I am running on a box has a couple of issues: 1) The process does not appear to be started on the port I requested according to netstat -a; 2) The process can only be connected to from the local machine and not from other machines.

What do I have to do to allow the port to be accessed from another machine?

I have tried both turning off the firewall and enabling it with the NIC as a trusted source.

Thanks,

Pete

Turned out that the hosts file looked like this:

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 143.61.249.224 localhost.localdomain localhost

And everything worked fine after changing it to the following:

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
143.61.249.224 IPRES1

Came about this by pinging the local machine by name and getting nothing. Then, suspected that if the local machine did not know who it was then maybe the OSAgent for CORBA did not either. Think that the OSAgent was telling clients to hook up to 127.0.0.1 on whatever port the CORBA process was running on. That may be why the local client was the only one that could connect.

Just wanted to post an update in case anyone else runs into this.
