Angry playing video of DAT MPEG AVI formats


I use Red Hat 9.0 & am new to linux

i am having Mplayer but it doesn't play files in DAT, MPEG,AVI,WMV....
how can i make it to play?
do i hav to download any codecs?? if so where can i download?? & how do i install that?

Download mplayer as weel as all of its codecs (I forget its address rightnow but you can google it, it is a famous software).
With full of codecs mplayer can handle any type of media file.
