Platform: RedHat or FreeBSD for Apache 2

I've decided to host my databases on a RedHat box, probably RH Enterprise.

Which is a better choice for the web server? RedHat or FreeBSD?

My plan is to setup Apache 2 and PHP

Any preferences?

Go with what your familiar or most comfortable with. Both will do the job. Personally though, if you've already built one box with RedHat, I'd say use it. That way they're both on the same platform, easy to update at same time, etc.

Yes.. Red Hat is much easier to use than FreeBSD...

Though "officially" FreeBSD will outperform any other operating system on equivalent hardware, period.

It's fun to learn... but pretty difficult at first.. FreeBSD does make a fantastic web server, it's what Yahoo! is hosted on... But then again.. it's more difficult...

LQ is hosted on Red Hat.. so obviously they are both very viable options...

As trickykid said,go with what you are most familiar with...
