perl warning

using redhat 8, whenever i run any perl script, i get this:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = (unset),
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = "en_US.UTF-7"
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

the script DOES run just fine......

IF i run perl_script 2>/dev/null, it works just fine

how (where) do i get rid of these warnings

Setting locale

Hello
I was experiencing exactly the same symptoms with my debian installation.
With the help of this posting:

Try dpkg-reconfigure locales and select the locales you want, then set the default (using LC_CTYPE and LANG) in /etc/profile.

Håkan

I was able to fix it. First I installed locales and localeconf (Debian- stuff ?)
But what made the difference was to insert locale settings in /etc/profile
LC_ALL="C"
LANG="C"
LC_CTYPE="C"
export LC_ALL LANG LC_CTYPE

You could replace C with your locale.
Then start a shell, and you are OK.
Thanks Håkan
