Isn't there just one version of the Redhat 9 kernel???

Here's a strange one... I'm going to upgrade the standard kernel in Redhat 9 with the nvidia drivers for my motherboard.

The RPMs are available at: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.0-0261.html and the two listed optional downloads are:

NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.rh90up_2.4.20_6.athlon.rpm
NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.rh90up_2.4.20_9.athlon.rpm

I'll probably just use the source code to get this working, but what I am more curious about is: why are 2.4.20-6 (patch 6) and 2.4.20-9 (patch 9) kernel patches offered when the standard RedHat 9 kernel is 2.4.20-8 (patch 8)?

I'm sure this is a very basic concept but I can't work it out. Was redhat 9 ever released with a different kernel edition than 2.4.20-8?

I'll place closure on this thread for others...

Forget trying to get NVidia nforce drivers working on older kernels that come with Redhat 9. Simply go straight to kernel 2.4.26 where nforce 2 is built in.
