Numeric Keypad Inoperative after RH v9.0 reinstall

After reinstalling Red Had Linux v9.0 due to a hard drive failure, the numeric keypad section of my keyboard does not work, regardless of the state of the NumLock indicator.

I can't find anything in my Red Hat documentation that describes how to correct this.

Before my hard drive crash and subsequent OpSys reinstallation the numeric keypad worked O.K. under control of the NumLock key.

I don't think the applications I run are at fault, I get the same results whether I'm using OpenOffice, Kwrite, emacs, et al.

If your using KDE then look in the Control Center > Peripherals > keyboard > check turn on (NumLock KDE startup)

I did as you suggested: Control Center > Peripherals > keyboard > verified that "Numlock on KDE Startup" Turn on was specified. No change in behavior, numeric keypad section of keyboard is still inop. I even swapped out my keyboard with my other computer, but alas, no joy.

The keyboard is a generic 104 key keyboard.
