No Desktop or Context Menu's

We are running RHEL 6.3 workstation. I have a user on one workstation that cannot see desktop icons, or right click on the desktop and summon a context menu. All other users on this box are fine. In gconf-editor, under apps-->nautilus-->preferences "show desktop" is checked. i read about a command line that displays the configuration called 'gsettings' however, i get a command not found error when i try to run it.

All apps work otherwise (i.e firefox, terminal, etc)

any ideas?

I haven no idea whats going on here. Before i posted i rebooted this machine several times, and tried many things. I see your post, and fire the machine back up, and everything is working splendidly. I give up.
