Newbie with big redhat project
 

I've used Redhat Enterprise and oracle in the last place I worked. However I never installed RE on a new machine (I'm building it) or created a network with it, this is entirely new to me. I have tons of questions regarding how to find out if RE linux has the correct drivers for the peripherals I have and stuff like that. Which forums should I hit on?

First of all I think you could do some research. If it's HW then the RHEL (HCL?) docs and addenda and bug tracker should show compatibility issues if any. Next we have the LQ HCL and you can also search the whole of LQ for similar questions. What I mean is that, apart from hoping this leads to information, after research you may be able to ask more *specific* questions which in turn could (I said could) lead to faster or qualitatively better answers.

As far as forums are concerned you'll probably will be switchng between Hardware, Red Hat (maybe Enterprise) and Software. It's basic taxonomy and the forum descriptions should help you check before posting. If it's for instance checking for availability of drivers for HW in RHEL then I'd say the Red Hat forum (or maybe Enterprise), if it's a problem with HW operability then I'd say the Hardware forum. If it's a problem with software installation or configuration: Software forum.

All in all there are some twilight zones so it's not always clear what goes where, so if anybody thinks it should be moved to a more appropriate forum you|they just have to report the post/thread and it will be moved w/o problems.

On the RedHat website, they do have a hardware compatibility list, although it's very small.

Generally, if you stick with "name brands" and not too bleeding edge technology, you should be okay. I have tried installing CentOS 4.4, based off of the RedHat Enterprise edition, and it would have a hardware crash during installation because it does not like my new Intel Quad Core processor.
