Before I begin I will say I am VERY new to linux in any shape or form and so am not too certain about how to do very much.
Ok, so onto the problem...
I recently installed Linux Redhat 9 (saturday morning) and am unable to set up my sound card.
In Windows it is shown as a "C-Media AC97 Audio Device," however I appear to be unable to set up the sound card in any way. I know that it is integrated with my Motherboard, but am unsure if that makes any difference to anything.
I did find one driver claiming to be drivers for the device, but I was unable to follow the instructions as any directories it referred to did not exist on my system. As far as I can remember it also had a reference to red hat 6. (I am not sure as I cannot check at the moment due to AOL not having a linux version and hence I am stuck with windows)
Check your mixer, Sound and Video-->Sound Mixer, make sure all levels are up. Then System Settings-->Sound Card Configuration. See if that works. I thought Redhat 9 had support built in for AC97.
Mine did the same thing, but it worked. The sound was terrible though, so bought a sound card. One thing to check, see in PnP OS is turned on in your BIOS. If so, turn it off. It generally interferes with Linux's ability to find things.
