On a brand new installation of RH9 I was having problems getting Xwindows to load with my video card (ATI Radeon All-in-wonder 9600) and LCD monitor (Princeton LCD19D).

It let me log in to a terminal session, so I went out to xfree86.org and got the latest version of xfree (making sure I downloaded the correct distro), and I installed it, telling it to overwrite all the config and setup files. Everything worked great, Xwindows loaded great, but when logging in it won't load Gnome or KDE even if I select that specifically from the session menu.

What does load is a window in the upper left that says "xsm:Default", and I have to click my mouse for it to place a window that is only a terminal window... in poking around it seems that it might be ICE that is running?

I really don't want to reinstall again unless I have to and am wondering if anyone can tell me how, or point me to docs that will tell me how to change my startup so I can have either KDE or Gnome load?
