Hello Guys,

We have a Computer with the kernel 2.2.12-20, I've been looking on google and it's suppose to de a Red Hat 6.1 but some guys here say that it is a Free BSD (If someone knows how determine that will be nice).

Anyway, I'm trying to configure a Network printer in this very old OS but I had not luck. I'm using a SMB Windows95/NT printer, I add the Computer name IP and everything that It ask and when I try to do a test It auntomatically show me the reason:

"LPR:Connect: COnnection refused, jobs queued, but cannot start daemon"

I can Ping the printer but I can't print.

Any Ideas??

Kernel 2.2 is definitely Linux, it sounds line. Doing "uname -a" and (if it is Red Hat) "cat /etc/redhat-release" (both commands entered without quotes) will help you out a lot.

It sounbds like CUPS (if RH6.2 used CUPS even) isn't running. Have you tried "service cups start" (again, no quotes) to get it going?

To be honest, an ancient distro like that is a major security risk and will be much less easy to use with worse compatibility than something modern. I'd highly advise upgrading.
