I have a problem with my usb mouse.
while i'm running my linux system in textmode, i plugged in the usb mouse and immediately two line of messages appeared and it stopped there without returning to the prompt again. i waited for serveral minutes neither the shell prompt nor more message came out so i press ctrl +c to stop and my mouse doesn' t work.

i try this mouse on another linux system, but this time i plugged in the mouse first before i power on the computer but kudzu doesn' t show any message during startup, and still i can't use my mouse.

I assume that my computer support usb because one time i can use my usb flash drive.

mrpc_cambodia; question how flashdrive configured? that maybe how you will have to config your usb mouse. most times its done via bios configuration. unless system os can detect device if os & system is usb preinstalled. most new systems are. as you quoted appears it is. small advise: methodically ,slowly & carefully configure device following users manual or other instructions available.

With my flash drive, i don't need to configure anything. just plug it in and then i can mount it.

for my usb mouse, i checked the specification already, it doesn't show any compatibility info with linux at all. but i dont think this mouse can't be used in linux. this is an optical usb mouse.


Any solution ?

mrpc_cambodia; at the time mouse is attached to hub(whether pc or external) it has to be recognized by os via bios or interface, what or how does that show up onscreen ? what does text indicate? that is where u via interactive have the opportunity to configure mouse to do what you would need it preform how you would need it to perform.

if i plug in before i start up the computer, it won't show any message, but while the computer is running and then i plug in the cable then it will show this message and after that stop there without returning to the prompt.

mrpc_cambodia; is problem solved? this is a belated tip; from what i,ve researched may have to do with usb cable. there are two(2) type. 1st din
connection coupler, 2nd flat rectanluar connection , the din is serial port, flat rectanluar is usb port (hub). which do u have? advise change to the other type if possible. through irq interrupt timeout is closing port and usb mouse. could not find another solution sorry.

Err, what is din connection coupler and flat rectanluar connection?

How can i determine mine is what type of these two?

My pc has four usb ports. 2 at the front and other 2 at the back.

so the 2 at the front are usb hub?


can u clearify this?

mrpc_cambodia; ahha, yes the ports maybe termed as hubs too. since they
are directly interfaced with processor bridge. now as the cables there are two types: ieee-1394 six pin port & four pin cables. the six has six wires, 2
differential pairs of clock & data lines, + 2 power lines. the four is for self -powered devices. the six wire cable & port are different than that of four wire cable & port in appearance, four wire is rectangle the six is pentagram.
which type do you have?

I just didn't realize that usb mouse doesn't work in text.

when i switch to graphical mode, my usb mouse work just fine.
