mutt will only send internal emails to other users on my computer, not external addrs
i have recently tried using mutt on my linux box. i am running Redhat 9.
the rpm installed fine with no error messages and i managed to call up mutt with no problems. i tried emailing a message to root. To: rooot@als.domain [that's my domain name for my computer] Subject: blahblah Hello. Any way, i logged on as root and i found the message in my mailbox all right. so i can send messages to other users on the same machine. i guess this means sendmail is working fine. then i try sending to an external email address, a hotmail one and it just doesn't work. mutt says "message sent" but i go to hotmail and i never receive it. i don't knpow very much about mutt, just started using it. could someone tell me what i am doign wrong please? ALSO, presently, mutt is sending and receiving email to and from my local computer, how do i configure it to receive an external POP mail account? can mutt use SMTP or must it use MTA? thanks |
I think you're having problems with your Sendmail setup. Perhaps procmail is used for local delivery and that's why it works locally?
Mutt works great with pop/smtp. Check out the sample configuration-files on their homepage (http://www.mutt.org/links.html#config) to see how it's done. Happy mailling.. |
