Mouse pointer stuck in corner of screen

Hi.

I'm using Redhat 8.0. I clicked on the Redhat Network Icon on the taskbar and got it to upgrade everything to the latest versions. Amongst other things, it updated the kernel from 2.4.20-20.8 to 2.4.20-28.8 and told me to reboot so check that it worked.
After restarting the system, when move the mouse, the pointer just jumps down to the bottom-left of the screen and acts as if the buttons are being pressed. The problem persists even if I reboot the previous version of the kernel.
Any suggestions as to what is wrong and how I can fix the problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The mouse driver probably got changed somehow. I suggest you boot in runlevel 3 (text mode), and check your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or equivalent file for the section about the mouse.

If the driver is "PS/2", try "IMPS/2", and the other way around. If the driver is neither, then try them as a start. Before the end of the week, I'll have a page, that *might* help you there:
http://yves.gablin.club.fr/linux/ind...e=config/mouse
but it's not there, yet... sorry, I'll try and hurry.

Yves.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I've changed it from "IMPS/2" to "PS/2" and that seemed to do the trick.
The wheel doesn't work, but at least I've regained control of the pointer so I guess I can live with that for now.
Thanks for the help.

The URL works OK in english now. But it is a quick "preview". I intend to update it soon, and translate it to French.

Yves.
