mounting an audio CD from console?

My question is, is this possible?

I want to use cat /dev/cdrom > /dev/audio to play an audio CD.

The CDrom device works fine from the desktop, but I like to program in emacs in the console. To listen to music simultaneously, I thought I could do this, but I can't seem to get mount /dev/cdrom to work.

I'm sure there's a way to do this! I'm just not using the right command or options, but I haven't found anything in the docs...

You can't mount audio disks, thats it.

To play an audio CD from the cli try cdcd or dcd.

Gee, I finally found something cat couldn't do! Ever do "cat /dev/hda > /dev/audio" to listen to your hard drive? Goofy stuff!
