Question Motorola SM56 PCI modem & RH9 problem configuring

Hello!

I a'm having trouble configuring the Motorola SM56 PCI Fax modem in Red Hat 9.

After downloading the driver "sm56-06.05.00-1.rh9.i386.rpm" (size :712.3KB) from motorola.com/softmodem/driver.htm website for Red Hat 9, when I tried to install it by typing "rpm -i sm56-06.05.00-1.rh9.i386.rpm" in Terminal there was an message saying the rpm package wasn't valid package and it didn't get installed. In GUI when tried to run it by double clicking on it, the same message read that the rpm appeared to be an invalid rpm.

How can I get the modem configured from this rpm? (or any other ways if above method isn't suitable?).

Your help is greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried re-downloading it to check the rpm didn't get corrupted during the first download?

Hi,
I re-downloaded the rpm & it got installed successfully. Thank you very much Okmyx.

I’m new to Linux, so I've got no idea about checking for device status, etc.
After installing, rebooted (in fact several times), still the RH9 doesn't seem to detect the modem. I know the modem's okay because it works with Windows XP (I’m dual booting).

FYI: When I tried the following in Gnome,
>System tools >Internet configuration wizard>selected "Modem Connection" & pressed Forward >after probing the message appears "No modem was found on your system.".
It's not there in the >System tools >Hardware Brower either.

Please help me out,
Thanks
