monitor frequency issue
Hi,
My RH Ent. 3 works well with a new monitor (lcd). Currently i'm using old crt monitor, the system won't start. I am getting: warning: couldn't open /etc/fstab/ input/output error. I tried to change /etc/X11/xorg.conf. However, the system does not permit me to write or move this file. even as root. Any help will be apprecated. Elad |
Hey
I am not sure if you know what a fstab is therefore here goes: The fstab (for file systems table) file is commonly found on Unix and Unix-like systems and is part of the system configuration. The fstab file typically lists all used disks and disk partitions, and indicates how they are to be used or otherwise integrated into the overall system's file system. It seems that that this file may have either been changed or deleted and without this file your system will not boot. If you have a backup of this file then maybe I can help so that you may restore your system otherwise it maybe a little more difficult to help. Cheers Tony |
fstab
Yes, you are correct.
I searched for fstab from Windows (explore2fs) and see that actually it's empty. I have a backup of this file; Can you help further? Thank's Elad |
Hey
Hopefully that was the only file deleted from your system and if that was not the case then from your Windoze partion or using Knoppix backup all relevant data just in case and reinstall the Linux OS. For now just copy the fstab into the /etc directory and try again ;-) Cheers Tony |
fstab
Hey,
Well I try but there is something weird. The system won't let me cp fstab into etc. All the files are readonly and i have no permission to make changes. I tried setenforce 0, without success. I am login as root and also try chmod +w.. but without success. I am getting a massaga that SElinux is activated. Is it the cause for all the above? Many Thank's, Elad |
