modules for intel 536ep modem wont install

hi there,

Running Redhat 9.0 with kernel 2.4.20-8
been trying to install a intel 536ep modem for ages now and ive run out of things to try. It complies fine, but the script bombs out when installing the modules.
I have the source code and gcc 3.2.2

heres the errors i get:

[root@localhost Intel536ep-4.62-R90]# insmod -f 536epcore.o
536epcore.o: unresolved symbol __global_cli
536epcore.o: unresolved symbol tqueue_lock
536epcore.o: unresolved symbol __global_save_flags
536epcore.o: unresolved symbol __global_restore_flags
536epcore.o:
Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license
and it has unresolved symbols. The module may be trying to access
GPLONLY symbols but the problem is more likely to be a coding or
user error. Contact the module supplier for assistance, only they
can help you.

ive heard alot of things to do, but none of them seem to work. do i have to type './configure' before i make? cos it just says no file or directory.

i have an intel 536ep too and i encountered the same problems. My modem works for about 5 seconds and thats it.

The general consensus is that this particular modem chipset cannot be made to work under Linux.

there are dozens of threads on this you can have a look at but no success stories unfortunately.

have to shop carefully though on a recent visit to my local PC susperstore I couldnt find a single modem on sale that is Linux compatible.

Best bet is an old external one that connects to a serial port.
