messed up red hat 9 install

I recently installed red hat 9, and have noticed that my login screen is missing information, such as the date, and all I see are four little arrows and the login box. When I put my username in, I do not see the characters, and the same with my password, but it still ogs me on, then, when I am logged on, certain apps are missing text and information. An y help anyone?

U can try going to the redhat website and updating ur applications from there or use the rh cd`s rpm to reinstall the programs that don`t seem to be working properly. when i log in to my rh9 system my user name shows but my password is always in asterisk form ****** and i never see a date at login
