Unhappy Memory usage going wild???

I have a following problem:

I boot up RedHat 9 and log in.
Then i run xosview and my memory usage is about 190 Mb.
That should not be a problem...
But after few hours of working it goes up to 490 Mb???
I close all programs log out and log in again but the Ram is still full?
When i reboot the machine it starts normally whit normal ram usage, and then again after some time it goes up to 500 Mb.
And my comp slows down.

What could be the reason for this?
Is there a way to clean memory after it is full?

I have 2 x 256 Mb sticks of Samsung Brand Name DDR memory.

Thank you very much for help...
I try to find topic about ram usage but i guess i didn't try hard enough.
So i appologise for asking it again.

About the computer slowing down.
Actually it is not the machine that slows down but the shell.
When i write the huge command and try to delete the part of it it goes trerribly slow...

Hm... that didn't make much sense did it?

When I press and hold backspace it goes slow and it sholud go fast as always.
It could be notihing thou.

Thanx again for explainig the ram usage
