MAJOR issue installing RedHat 9

OK, before I start, I should mention that I am a complete Linux n00b.

When trying to install RedHat 9, ny computer literally locks up when it's trying to install the 1394 driver....

Now, I had this same issue with Mandrake 9.2, and I bypassed the installation of the firewire by typing in the command "linux no firewire"....

My roommate is like, a Unix god, and even he can't seem to figure out why this is happeneing...

Any help would be appreciated.

I guess the first question is, has the current hardware setup worked on a windows environment before, and if so, was there a conflict in the hardware? Grab a small spare harddrive and do a small install of windows 98 to it to test.

Is this a new board or have you added new cards recently? Has there been damage? I have had a similar problem with a laptop with damaged pcmcia hardware.
