LVM limitations?
I was wondering if there is a size limitations for LVM2. Currently I am using RHEL ES v4(64bit) and just cant seem to get the system to mount larger than 1.6TB for the LVM. Currently I have two 4TB SATA on a (2)3ware cards. If possible I would like to setup a 8TB LVM, if not (2) 4TB LVM will do. Also if I try to use fdisk the biggest partition I can create is 1.6TB but it see's 4TB I just cant create a partition that big in fdisk. Any help would be apreciated.

The problem does not lie on the LVM but on what type of FS u using. Are u using EXt3 and if so then there is a limitation on the partition size being created. Try using the following FS like reiserfs and JFS which are good alternatives, FFS has a Peta byte limitation so that is more than adiqaute for your problem. There is another which is a paid version and if this is a commercial system try look at something like xfs by SGI or something like vertias which is used my most fortune 500 company. cheers |
