kppp Doesn't Dock Into Panel After Connect
Hi-
I'm running Redhat 9.0. I am able to dial in using kppp with no problems. However, after kppp connects, it creates a tiny window containing a little 'modem and lights box' in the upper-left corner of the screen. What I would *like* to happen after connecting is for the modem icon to appear next to the clock, as in Mandrake and Windows. Does anyone have suggestions for how to accomplish this? I have already checked the 'Dock into panel after connect' box. BTW: I have done the following, which allowed kppp to connect w/o using the root password. The creation of a mini-window was the same before and after the change: rm /usr/bin/kppp chmod u+s /usr/sbin/kppp ln -s /usr/sbin/kppp /usr/bin/kppp (taken from wave.prohosting.com/hlrguy/Redhat8.0/kppp.html Thanks Much, Eric Everman |
This is in KDE right? Coz in Flux you'll get that unless you ./configure --enable-kde to allow KDE apps to dock in to the slit.

Using GNOME
I'm using GNOME. Can't believe I didn't mention that...
Will your fix work for GNOME as well? Thanks, ee |
....and where is the configure command located??
|
RedHat uses precompiled packages for it's software, and recompiling Gnome could get ugly, so no, my fix for the latest Fluxbox releases wont work for RH Gnome.
I honestly dont know if Gnome is meant to support the Kde system tray, as from the Fluxbox options I know they each have thier own standards. Maybe I should use Gnome more... Edit: You might notice from the command that "./configure" is executing something within the current directory (aka ./). It's the standard name of the script which'll generate system specific files for you to then make and make install a package of software sources. See this LinuxAnswer. :) |
Hmm, thats too bad. I was told that Redhat was favoring GNOME over KDE - it came up as the default desktop.
Is there a GNOME equivalent to kppp? EDIT: I'm simply installing RH from disk w/o make-ing it. I *really* don't want to go down that road. |
