kppp 2.1.2 locks /dev/mixer and not able to use /dev/mixer


Hi all,
Whenever i first dial out for internet and if /dev/mixer is not in use the kppp opens it and then it doesnt let me play any sound there after. But if i wud have started player before kppp then there will not be any problem .
So how to restrict kppp not to use /dev/mixer.
KPPP always asks root password which i dont want it to ask . please help to solve these problems
