KDE does not come up after boot (redhat 7.3)

I am a newbie and have been running Redhat 7.3 using KDE for a year with no problem. I tried to shutdown the machine last month and there was only a "logout" selection under KDE. I remember seeing the "shutdown" selection before. So I logged out, and logged back in as root to shutdown using command line.

Now I rebooted the machine and KDE does not come up. I checked /etc/inittab and the run level is 5. I have tried booting twice with the same result. What is going on?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry about not being clear - It comes up in BASH shell (command line).

I'm having the same problem, though I desire Gnome to boot rather then KDE. Suggestions?
