I've downloaded the RPMs from the java website, these things called something like j2re. I did what I thought would install them, but it still displays the little puzzle piece in mozilla browser. Is there some file I need to manually edit after simply installing the java plugin I downloaded?
Well, I had the same problem with the Java's plugin in Mozilla, so I followed the steps above to create a link in the Mozilla's plugin directory to the libjavaplugin_oji.so file, but doesn't seem to be working. The Java plugin is not recognized by the browser.
My Java's plugin is in the following directory (libjavaplugin_oji.so):
/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/
And the Mozilla's plugins directory is:
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.2.1/plugins
So I created a link in the Mozilla's plugins directory, as follows:
[root@localhost plugins]# ln -s libjavaplugin_oji.so
What's going wrong? Could you help me?
Tks a lot!

brunnopessoa - Try linking different versions of the plugin into the Mozilla plugins folder (i.e. the ns610 and ns4 plugins) - mozilla 1.2 is getting quite old.
hmm... ilikejam, tks! you're right! Mozilla 1.2 is old, so I am downloading v. 1.5. My doubt now is: for an upgrade, how do I install this stuff? If I install it, the previous version will be replaced or what? Should I uninstall it before? How do I do it?
I tried to have some help in Mozilla's website, but they don't give a clue...
Tks again!

The Mozilla installer *should* replace your existing mozilla installation - I would just go for the install (this is what I did).
You could try uninstalling Mozilla 1.2, but a lot of programs rely on the libraries to operate (e.g. Evolution), so RPM wouldn't let you without a fight.
