Issues installing Ultrium 448 External Tape drive

Hello,
I have issues in installing HP Ultrium 448 external tape drive on HP ML 370 G5 server running Red-Hat-Linx OS. It has a SCSI interface & I thought it was suppose to plug & play but not. I got an information that all i need to do is echo "engage scsi" > /proc/drivers/cciss/cciss1 but unfornately i do not know how to do this because i just began learning about LINUX,

Can anyone give me step by step info on how to go about this?

Thanks so much.

This is my first time here!

Hi,

standard SCSI is neither plug&play or hotplug by itself.

You should shutdown the system, connect the appropriate cables, check SCCI-ID and termination, startup the host, check if tape is reported via boot, install mt-st package and do an
Code:
mt -f /dev/nst0 status
where nst0 is the device name reported during boot.
