internal modem


frnds,
would like to know how to configure an INTERNAL modem..
i have with me a motorola SM56 pci modem... ( the worst u can get in
this category...i bet u..)
well..we can configure external modems (serial) by configuring the
/etc/wvdial.conf file with the wvdialconf command... like this

#wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf .... then entering the telephone line
and all...

but wat abt the internal modems?

im eagerly waiting for ur replies..

This almost assuredly a winmodem and therefore doesn't have a onboard DSP chip. Support for these was spotty to non-existant in the past (I don't use winmodems in Linux so I don't keep up). You are going to need a driver for the winmodem to emulate the DSP chip in software. Your other option is to replace this modem with a more expensive "hardware" modem which includes the DSP chip.
