Installing software in RHEL (Missing dependencies)

Hello,

I am using Redhat ent. Linux 5 (Desktop). This is installed through my office distribution. When ever I try to download any application (RPM) file from the web(example MPlayer or Bittorrent), and try to install using rpm -ivh [rpm filename] I get missing dependencies error.

It is really very hard to find rpm from rpmfind.net as dependencies specific to RHEL5 is not available.

I am thinking of formating and changing to centos 5.

When you guys encounter issues (like missing dependencies) how do you find missing rpm?

Thanks in advance for your help. Sorry I am new to linux.

You should use yum for this, RHEL5 is fully yum enabled. Follow the instructions here and install the rpmforge-release package;

http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/FAQ.php#B

When done; yum install mplayer mplayerplug-in

Another good repo to use is; http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL
