Installing RedHat 4ES on Dell PowerEdge 2400

I am installing RedHat 4ES on a Dell PowerEdge 2400 server. I have gone through the BIOS and set up the RAID (level 5) and should be ready to install. I boot from the RedHat 4.0 CD and it does not detect any hard drives. I tried with a Windows CD, just to see, and it found the drive just fine. Can anyone help me figure out what I am missing with either the install or the BIOS setup?

You are probably going to need to supply the Dell PERC RAID card driver during the install since it may not be a part of the default distribution. You should be able to ask Red Hat during the initial installation support window for help.

Have you checked that the container is created and initialized? Once you create your raid container you have to initialize the drive; at least on Dell 2850's that is how it works.
Please note, I had a Dell 1450 that if you initialized the drives it wiped out the container. I got the same error you are getting. So, it is not real consistant. But before you exit the scsi setup screen do a view containers. If the container is present at that point I've never had a problem loading the OS.

You probably already know this, but just in case .....I'm talking about the drive setup screens that you get to by hitting 'contol m' during boot up. The old 1450 uses 'control a' to enter this setup area.

Bit late maybe...

But I used to have a poweredge 2450 which had the same problem. I had to do a bios update to make it work. Have a look on the dell site to see if your bios is the most recent one...
