Installing Gaim 0.71 rpm

Hi I was wondering do i have the correct version of the gaim package to install on redhat 9 on a PIV 1.7GHz. The file i got was .. gaim-0.71-1rh9.i386.rpm The reason i'm asking is that when i click on the rpm to install it, It asks me for my root password and i enter it, then it says its checking for dependancys and the screen disapears and nothing happens. Gaim isn't even installed. (norm i get the please wait while installing screen)

Thanks for any help ye can give.

Hi, Install it in a terminal, i find the RPM graphical installer is a little screwy and sometimes even brings X down.

step-by-step:-
[alt]+F2 (if ur using KDE or GNOME)
type aterm
in aterm type "su"
type root password
type "rpm -ivh gaim-0.71-1rh9.i386.rpm"
if it doesnt install it will then tell u why.

See further down in the message boards.

There are issues with redhat-install-packages (and redhat-config-packages). You would see an error message if you started your browser/package-tool in a terminal (e.g. xterm, konsole).

Download the i386.rpm package to your disk, then install it with: rpm -ivh gaim-0.71-1rh9.i386.rpm

Or get additional helper tools such as Yum or APT-RPM.

hey again,
I did what you suggested and it started saying,

warning: gaim-0.71-1rh9.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 883c1c14
error: Failed dependencies:
libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-0.71-1rh9

As seen as i'm new too linux i've no idea what that means but i understand that i need to install "libgtkspell.so.0" somehow.

It would be important to know where you downloaded gaim.

You can get gtkspell packages from e.g. fedora.us or freshrpms.net. However preferably you should get all dependencies from the same place.
