Installation Problem with Redhat Enterprise WS 4

Hello
I am trying to install RedHat Enterprise WS 4 from a bootable CD-ROM drive. After the options menu arrives, when I press 'Enter' key or use the different options like 'linux noprobe', 'linux nofb', my system reboots.

Hence I tried to write the diskboot.img image file on to a floppy using Rawrite but the image file is larger than 1.44MB.

I had loaded Suse 9.1 by choosing pcmcia off and it worked fine but not with RedHat

So can anyone give me suggestions as to how I can overcome this problem.

Thank you In advance

Suresh

The .img file is for USB drives - the Linux 2.6 kernel is too big for a floppy disk. Aside from USB and CD, the other supported boot method is network booting with PXE.

dear hob
thanks for the info on the .img file. But I haven't got a reply to my question as to how I can load the RedHat Enterprise 4 with 2.6 kernel on my pc since my BIOS is not supporting the installation. I had the same problem with Fedora. I was able to successfully load RedHat enterprise 3.

Thanks
esuresh

It sounds like a bug, so check bugzilla.redhat.com or Google for your specific mainboard.

One work-around is to set up a network boot service, if your machine supports PXE (most now do).
