install slony 2.0 on RHEL6


I can't find it when I do yum search slony

So how do I install it I run postgres 8.4

You need to enable the PostgreSQL yum repos
http://yum.pgrpms.org/

Is that like something like backports for debian but for redhat?

No. RHN cannot include every possible rpm in it's repos. Some rpms are provided by third parties - just like MSN does not include every possible windows application. Third party repos for Debian also exist to fill gaps in the official ones, like for some restricted multimedia.
