Install NTFS module without yum

I have an old RHEL 5.3 server that I want to install ntfs utilities on. How can I do this without yum (network restrictions)?

I am trying to mount an external HDD and this system has no NTFS modules. I have read about ntfs-3g and fuse but am not sure how to go about getting them without EPEL or yum or some other package.

I'm not very up on filesystems/ntfs or installing modules without like this without yum. Could i find the ntfs driver and install it manually using rpm?

I am grateful for any input here. Thank you

You could normally download the RPM package and install locally if need be however there may be other dependency issues that you would also need to manually install. I had similar issue with installing sshd without an internet connection. In the end it became more a mission to install the packages and required dependencies I ended up waiting until I was able to get an internet connection and install via package manager. Unfortunately sounds like you don't have an option due to the network restrictions?

Check here: https://pkgs.org/download/ntfs-3g

Another option would be if you have the required disc or ISO for your Red Hat and try to see if the package is available.

It's been years since RHEL 5 was supported - you've definitely got a major problem there.
Gad's linked site only goes back to Centos 7 (not surprisingly).

It does look like you'll need to see if you can find the ISO for RHEL 5 or even Centos 5.
Tbh, I'm not sure ntfs-3g existed then anyway.

Have you considered using nfs or cfs/samba?

Definitely have a look around your office etc for the ISO disk(s) - they are probably in a cupboard somewhere ...

In the long run you really need to upgrade to something current.

PS If you can manage with txfring files as opposed to having a permanent disk share, good old ftp should work, maybe even scp if you are lucky.

HTH.

Old RPM packages can be found on vault.centos.org, or are linked from there. ISO files as well, e.g. http://linuxsoft.cern.ch/centos-vault/5.3/isos/x86_64. They should work with RHEL.
