insmod snd-emu10k1 failed

I'm having major problems trying to get my sblive card to work under RedHat 9.

After installing the Alsa drivers I did the modprobe:

modprobe snd-emu10k1;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

and I get the following errors:

/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod snd-emu10k1 failed

I checked in the appropriate directories and all the files are there. So I'm basically stumped as to what to do. I read somewhere that RH maybe trying to load the default modules that come with RH and that might be what is stopping the alsa modules from loading?

I tried the Alsa drivers because I couldn't get the SBLIVe working after the RH 9 installation. Can't get it working either way. :/

Any help with this would be much appreciated. I'm a newcomer to linux and havn't had to many problems with anything else. Just this damned soundcard.

module.conf is setup as per instructions on the Alsa website.

Running the RH 9 sound configuration utility does not detect my soundcard.

The bios is set to NO for plug and play OS.

I've searched google for answers and while it seems to turn up a lot of problems with the SBLive/Linux OS there were no definative answers to my problem. Seems a lot of people have problems running a SBLive under Linux.

I'd prefer to solve this problem rather than buy a different sound card as a few people have recommended on different forums and mailing lists.

"init_module: No such device" from your original post makes me think you didn't run the script in the alsa source to build the /dev entries that are necessary.

go back to the alsa source and run ./snddevices
