Hi guys,

Am using redhat 9.0 on x346 IBM server, this morning when i logged in as root all my desktop icons disappeared and i was unable to right click also and apart from that all the icons are appearing on other users desktop...Am really new to linux i know this the problem is with nautilus but am unable to resolve it....please suggest me detailed procedure on how to resolve this problem.

If it were me I would go ahead and remove all the .gnome related directories, especially since this seems to involve just the root user. When Gnome starts up it will create any default directories or files that it needs. For example, when you create a new user their initial home directory contains very little until Gnome or other programs run creating hidden directories and any files that they need to store info between sessions.

In the past I have seen posts that mention strange behavior if Gnome doesn't close properly. The usual solution is to remove the .gnome directories and let it build new directories when you execute startx.
