i just purchased RHEL WS basic edition Q's

i decided to follow this path. however it is a little confusing which is what where.

i am currently downloading:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS (i386)

Binary Disc 1 129M
Binary Disc 2 622M
Binary Disc 3 625M
Binary Disc 4 101M

is this the correct ones?

as i also see Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (v. 2.1 for i386) for download. that is an older version?

any insight.

Hi hows it going?

It looks right. If you purchased RHEL3 WS and the site says that is what you are downloading then it should be all right.

RHEL3 is 4 CD's, and they are the sizes of the iso's that I have. Once you install you'll see that Disc 1 is the bootable one, where you do everything up to installing rpm's (eg. Region select, type of install etc).
Disc 2 contains rpms.
Disc 3 contains rpms.
Disc 4 contains a smaller amount of rpms.

RHEL 2.1 is the older version, it is based on something like RH7.2 or 7.3, I'm not 100% sure which one it is. Where as RHEL3 is based around RH9, which is what you want.

Anyway, good luck mate.
