I dream of desktop bliss
Hello everyone in the RH forum. Isn't it nice to have a place to discuss appropriate to our distros. I think a round of applause to the site admins :D (no clapping smilies...hint hint)
My question is about customizing the desktop, I use KDE, dunno why but hey thats what I chose! I've seen the wonderful desktop screenshots featured in these forums and want to do it myself. I know a lot of these people are running Gentoo but most mention KDE at some point so I guess I'm asking for a good NEWBIE customisation guide. I dream of floating, transparent windows displaying pointless info about my CPU's love affair with the heatsink, sweeping rounded control panels filled with pretty, glowing icons which I have totally forgotton what they do... sorry went off track. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance. |

Nice site, I'll start by rooting around in there.
Thanks. BTW any tutorial links still appreciated! |
I use to use KDE but I moved to Ximian Desktop 2. Its interface is pretty clean and you can do a lot to make it look nice. Here is the link, although the screenshots aren't too impressive.
http://www.ximian.com/products/desktop/screenshots.html I know this doesn't answer your question about what to do with KDE, but its just a suggestion. |
Well I am looking at any suggestion, not just KDE.
I want a fantastic customized desktop with newsfeeds, email, sys stats just like the ones you see here in the desktop images threads. I also want semi-transparent windows! God I'm greedy... |
With KDE, there was something called Superkaramba I tried to get working. Although I could never get it to completely work, the people who did get it to work had some amazing desktops.
