I broke my sound server!!!

ohk guys here is the scoop. WEll i was messing with the kernel, making my linux system function just as well as if not better than my now decease windows system. WEll everything worked fine and then i realized that i could get my zp drive to work, so i searched online and found out that i had to recompile the kernel with support for it. But before i did make dep (after doing make xconfig and loading from a file), i read that i had to type make clean in the top directory of the kernel source, so i did it, and now my sound modules don't act right. i have a Cmedia pci 9738 (integrated into a sis 735 board,) and i usually install their drivers and i get perfect sound (it is an oss driver , full duplex, ac97 codec compatible ...the works) but now i can't install it ne more it gives me this error:
[tenoki@dhcppc2 tenoki]$ cd cmaudio
[tenoki@dhcppc2 cmaudio]$ make
cc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.4/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O -fno-strict-aliasing -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i686 -falign-functions=4 -DMODULE -c -o main.o main.c
In file included from cmaudio.h:7,
                 from main.c:1:
/usr/include/linux/delay.h:13:23: asm/delay.h: No such file or directory
In file included from main.c:1:
cmaudio.h:18:30: linux/ac97_codec.h: No such file or directory
In file included from main.c:1:
cmaudio.h:20:25: asm/uaccess.h: No such file or directory
cmaudio.h:21:25: asm/hardirq.h: No such file or directory
make: *** [main.o] Error 1
so yeah, now when i recomplile the kernel and make soundcore modular with ac97 and oss support, i still get the same error. i used sndconfig to reconfigure my card and it tells me that i am using an i810_audio chipset/codec, and i can hear linus talk when it asks if the sound can be heard. the problem is that this setup only works in threaded oss support, and it sucks, most od my apps are set to directly use the oss driver for my card (the cmedia one) and so they crash or sound never works. also, i no longer have ESD support as it killed the latency between activation and sound output (made it instant). so, can ne 1 help, i'm sorry that this is like my 7th post and i have only been able to help 1 person. i'm still somewhat new to linux, but now it is my full time work space.
I leave here with questions. 1.) Can ne 1 help me, or suggest a work around. 2.) What is the best sound (server) for linux oss/alsa/nething else.
thank you guys so much. anthony
