How to enable mp3 support for audacious in RHEL 5 ???
 

Hi,

I am using RHEL 5. I have enabled rpmfusion, epel and rpmforge yum repositories and installed Audacious and dependecies. But I could not find any mp3 playback plugins. Installed Audacious plays ogg format but doesnt play mp3. How can i make Audacious play mp3 format ??. Please help !!!!

you said about your are installing xmms in redhat 5,can you tell me about ,"had you find all rpms of xmms which required??and if you find then how u configuring yum??" I think that you are doing wrong in yum

Hi vinay,

I wanted to know what package( Plugin) to be intstalled to play mp3 in Audacious. Which repository of yum has that Package ??? This post has nothing to do with XMMS.

P.S.---- I have already installed Audacious.

First of all, last post before yours is 1 year old! And second, he needed packages with mp3 libraries, not the player. mp3 libraries can be only found on third party repositories like rpmforge and atrpms, and since there are several sound engines, like xine or gstreamer for example, getting proper library is mostly to install mp3 library as a part of the large plugins package.

after installation of rpm of realplayer no requirement any plugins or any type of support except hardware driver.If your driver installed properly then no problems.

And what is I want to use Amarok to play mp3 files for example? Real Player is not FOSS (Open Source).

I use RHEL derivates for server/router for 7 years. I use exclusively CentOS(RHEL) for desktop for now 3 full years. In last 2 years I created my own local mirror for 12 different CentOS/RHEL 5.x repositories and recompiled from Fedora some 60 packages/applications that have not existed before, including OpenOffice 3.1.1 and ~20 of those are available to public on my public repository. Several of those are mp3 (and few other) decoder libraries, so I know exactly what I am talking about.

I am not hurt in any way. I am just trying to neutralize your miss-leading suggestions since they have no relevance to actual question, and to convince you that you accept that and also learn yourself. Solution he was asking was system wide mp3 support, not player to play mp3's. There are mp3 libraries in several repositories like rpmfusion, rpmforge, atrpms, and I also have them combined in my repository on http://rpms.plnet.rs.
