on the grub boot screen hit "e", add a "1" to the kernel options, hit enter, then "b" to boot

Hi,

Using GRUB, use the following steps to boot into single-user mode:

- At the GRUB splash screen at boot time, press any key to enter the GRUB interactive menu.
- Select the entry with the version of the kernel that you wish to boot and type a to append the line.
- Go to the end of the line and type single, press [Enter] to exit edit mode.
- Press b to boot.

The above steps will boot into single user mode just once (next boot is "mormal" again).

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Beaten by acid_kewpie

BTW: 1 and single are the same, both will boot into single user mode.
