Why oh why did you want to keep the Windows boot loader... don't you know XP hates Linux?

Well, that's enough of that... though the question is valid - what does the win bootloader do for you that GRUB dosn't?

Your easiest fix is to reinstall GRUB where it's supposed to go.

If you want the win bootloader to boot up linux, then GRUB location is irrelevant (someone correct me). You need to point the win bootloader at the linux ramdisk (I'm guessing you're trying to get the win bootloader to start GRUB and then boot linux from there?)

Otherwise, you'll need to supply more info - what exactly do you do to configure the win bootloader anyway?

you can either use grub to chainload windows which is very easy to do
use ntldr.exe to chainload to a linux bootloader like grub which is um messy

Just use GRUB. It's prettier anyway :P
