Lightbulb how to add a scsi tape in R.H 8.0

Hi,

I have a DL380 HP sever running redhat 8.0. Recently, I put a scsi controller card into the server, in order to use a HP dat DDS4 Tape Drive.

When I reboot the linux machine, it is detect the scsi controller but doesn't auto detect the tape drive. The tape drive doesn't show up under /proc/scsi/scsi .

If, at the time when I installed redhat 8.0, the tape drive and scsi controller cards are already in the server, then the linux installation would've detected them and install the necessary driver files, right? But now... linux doesn't "auto-detect" them upon reboot.
What do I need to do to get it to work?

Advice will be greatly appreciated.

scsi tape in redhat

I had to perform 3 steps to get my Seagate Scorpion 240 working.

1. Verify that the scsi controller is present in modules.conf. This would be a line something like: alias scsi_adapter <driver_name>

2. If your system uses initrd, it must be rebuilt using mkinitrd.
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-<kernel_version>.img <kernel_version>
After reboot, you should see your tape drive listed if you cat /proc/scsi/scsi.

3. If your tape drive needs multiple lun support, the Redhat kernel needs to be rebuilt to enable this. As an alternative, you can add the following to rc.local:

echo "scsi add-single-device a b c d" > /proc/scsi/scsi
