How do I edit a file like menu.lst ?

How do I install the grubconf? How can I edit a simple file like menu.lst, cause when I try to open it, my system says... there is no association to this file, and just wanted a simple thing, like edit my grub configuration.
Is that so hard or I am stupid?

thanks for your help
