Help with NIC Card Driver update?

Ok, I'm fairly new with linux. My company has changed their production servers from SCO UNIX to Red Hat RHEL5,, I need to update the NIC card drivers in one of the servers..

I have the new driver that is in an RPM file.

My question is this.

Once the RPM is extracted what happens to the files?

What is the process to update the NIC after the RPM file is installed?

Are there any files that need updated ie, /etc/rc.d/mod.conf or something along those lines.

your help is greatly appriciated,

Thank you in advance.

dont extract rpm instead install rpm using gnome eniroment or use this command line

Code:
 rpm -iv <rpm name>
then u dont have to do anything else u can easily check ur NIC card after u reboot ur system. To check ur NIC card type this command in Konsole

Code:
system-config-network
good-luck

So if I simply use

rpm -ivh (fname)

it will update the driver without any other user intervention?

Next question then...

Can you then run service network restart or will that not utilize the new driver?

thank you for the reply greatly appreciated.

You may need rpm -Uvh instead (it seems to me that ivh is meant do fresh installs while Uvh is meant to do updates).
