hdd issues
ok here's the dealio
got an ibm netvista or some crap, it had a 9gb hdd (primary master/no slave) in it which i split in two for win98 and win2k (work purposes) and then i threw in a second 6.4gb hdd on secondary ide as master w/ cdrom as slave and had REDHAT 7.2 running on the full 6.4gb disk
well last week i heard the linux drive making clunky sounds and then linux gui started freezing and forced me to reboot
thought maybe the hdd was improperly positioned inside case so i rearranged it
today log into linux and start surfing web talking on ymessenger no downloads or anything
and it starts to freeze
it froze completely nothing at all would work
so i rebooted and got a message telling me to force file integrity check which it did
then it popped up a weird message which i'm sorry i didn't write down but it said something about entering my root pass to do maintenance or ctrl+d to startup normally
i tried both but as it turns out maintenance was pretty much a basic shell
i tried fsck on all the hdx's i could think of and nothing happened
i forget which particular hdx it was but it said bad magic number in superblock
basically i just ripped out the 6.4gb and threw in a 20gb which i am currently installing rh7.2 on
my real problem is that it won't recognize the first hdd with win98 and win2k on it when its in the install process i chose lilo and normally i choose win2k as default but it only had hdc showing not win2k or win98 at all
oh also when i had just the first hdd in there after ripping out the 6.4, rebooting went to L for lilo but froze there
i need to get multiboot back
please please please if anyone knows what to do i would greatly appreciate it as this is for work purposes and there is a lot of data that i do not have the time to search for and reinstall and configure on those versions of windows
it would be a complete last resort but i really do not want to do that
so please any info would be helpful thanks
keep in mind i am not a guru or anything so try not to be SO technical if at all possible
thanks
